Face value

Face value is what a contract pays if it wins, which for most prediction-market contracts is $1. TickerTracker reports volume at face value: 100 contracts traded at 63¢ each is $100 of volume, even though the buyer paid $63. Face value measures how much market changed hands regardless of the odds, the same way a bond is counted at par. It is the figure also called notional value.
